Review By Jeffrey Howard.

I saw Versus last night in Orlando with Yo La Tengo. What a killer double bill. The show sold out but I managed to get in, like, five extra people. Versus was really rockin' and Yo La Tengo was, well, you know how they are. One minute they're breaktakingly beautiful, the next they're a loud mess. Still good. They didn't do "Swing For Life" - that's my favorite. Ah well.

Versus really kicked it in "Blade Off Grass" and "Shangri-La". I've been figuring out the set list (picturesd on right). I can't remember what NO and VG stood for.... help?? They did "Shangri-La" (the slow one) during soundcheck but that's being too detailed, I think.... They did go to Disney today. The boys were overly *excited* about it except for Fontaine, who has a thing about rides and the idea it's all "kid stuff". Haha. More Versus tour dates.

Versus do have the new album with them on the tour. They aren't allowed to sell them until October. What the heck? Anyway, they gave me a copy. I've listened to it three or four times today. First impression: pretty mellow, don't expect an all out rock out. It leaves off where they were heading with the mellower songs from the Afterglow EP. They use piano/keyboard prominently on a couple of songs. "Eskimo" sounds like Third Eye Blind. Heehee. Nice artwork on the booklet. Lyrics included.

You can find some more photos of Yo La Tengo and Versus here on this page taken by Kim.
